A Championship Year (the hard way)

2014 Turned out to be a great year in many ways combining the growth of our business while making the time to race the Baja Sur off road series. This year I was racing the open pro class and yes there are a few great young riders that walked away with the top position every race, but with enough 1st loser trophy's and perseverance we managed to walk away with the 1X plate for the year.

Always pumped to race against these guys.
Trying to catch Pancho for the overall @ Dos Mares.
Glassboy giving the official sign for the season.

With that being said it was a lot tougher than expected with broken bike parts broken body parts and the drama that ensues such a task of finishing every race. It was never a high priority to race all the events as racing doesn't pay very well and the risk is always a factor. But hey I have tried to express what racing means to many people but until you have had the high intensity of head to head competition I guess I will be just talking to the wind and listing to people say you should quit and the always present comment aren't you too old for that racing stuff, Hell No!

Oh yes Baja silt beds.
The original Captain Baja Boyz down for a fun Dos Mares.
Racing gets in your blood and its very hard to replace the adrenaline and emotions that go with the game, a lot of people tell me I am so mellow and find it hard to believe that I compete and pretty much none of them believe that I compete in the open pro class with a bunch of 20 some year olds. Somebody has to show these young guns that wisdom, experience, and control of your emotions can still be rallied into a winning season so I guess that was my task for last year.

Some trophies are more than dust collectors.

Of course this all can't be done by yourself as you have to have a great team and friends to get through these long distance races with multiple pit stops for gas, service and repair if needed. I really appreciate the support I get from my partner and squeeze Jae she is ready for all and then some come race day I wish I could harness her energy during a race for sure. As Jae is my biggest supporter and we have a great deal of friends that are always willing to help out the team and of course their efforts get me to the finish line, whatever it takes! Thank You Glassboy, My Toys, Omar, Jesse, Andretti, Freddie and others as well the race fans of Baja Sur with all their unsurpassed enthusiasm!!

Jae CBAT's #1 support always ready for the crowd.
Yes we try to have fun! why not its Baja.
Everybody was whipped after the East Cape 300 especially Ronny V.

I also have to give a lot of thanks to the DFR crew Luis and Alejandro were fierce competitors but these guys are like family always willing to help which is not easy to find in your competitors. They also had a mission this year to hold up their close amigo this year and has been heavy on their hearts since his unexpected passing he is always missed and carried with each ride, we all miss you Rudy (Gordo) Diaz.

Team DFR chillen after the race.
Oh Ya did I mention we had a major hurricane to deal with.

I have to say that after the last race in Dec I was almost depressed as to say what next? I won the championship but now what? Maybe it was the fact that the last race saw me eating major shit with a 60 mph get off resulting in a hematoma on my ass and a knee that I am now just able to start working out and knowing that our business is now so busy that I will not likely be able to race all the events this next year and thus not compete for another championship. I am not sure how to fill this space but I will and get on with a great life here in Baja Sur racing when I can and keeping you all informed of the fun down here. I am sorry for the delay in writing a final season report but it has been a struggle to put in words as to say the season is really over!

Justin Dr.Herrmann and the SRD clinic sucking stuff outa my ass!

Thanks again to all that support me and Captain Baja.
